Lake Ozette  Sockeye

Recovery

Lake Ozette Sockeye is the only salmonid species within the Coast Region other than Bull Trout that has been listed under the endangered species act.  A Recovery Plan for Lake Ozette Sockeye has been written by NOAA Fisheries.  Implementation planning is currently under way.

For reference please visit the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northwest Region site on Lake Ozette sockeye salmon recovery for the final Lake Ozette Sockeye Salmon Recovery Plan and supporting documents:

Lake Ozette Steering Committee

Community members are invited to attend the Steering Committee’s discussion about Lake Ozette Sockeye Salmon recovery updates, public outreach, and implementation. Agenda topics will include planning efforts for Recovery Plan implementation; discussing public outreach and education; and future Steering Committee activities.

Over the last five years, the Committee has helped develop the Lake Ozette Sockeye Salmon Recovery Plan and provided input for the implementation plan.  The Steering Committee’s open membership includes landowners, interested citizens, timber companies, as well as representatives from local, state, federal, and tribal governments.
